If you ask him, Kevin will tell you he has nyctophobia. Big word for a 6 year old, especially when most children will just tell you that they are scared of the dark. Ben on the other hand likes the room to be dark for him to go to sleep. The past two years have been a pain in the rear for both boys as they have struggled to get the right amount of light in their bedroom. Tonight we had a HUGE breakthrough. After tucking all of the children in, Kevin asked me to turn off the closet lights and close the bathroom door most of the way. After picking my jaw back up off the floor, I had to ask him if he was sure. We turned the lights off one at a time so that he could see how dark the room would be. After turning off both closet lights, he said it was still to bright in the room, so I closed the bathroom door almost all the way. He settled down into his bed, saying "Ah, that's nice." And Ben's thoughts on the topic? "It's about time."
Happy children = happy mom. :)
